Have FUN with Kerpoof!!!

Hi everyone. Welcome to my 4th entry. But before that, I would like to wish you all Gong Xi Fa Chai. We are the Rabbitarians. It’s our year to rock. 🙂

In this entry I will talk about one tool that I found interesting and can be utilized in the classroom. It is the Kerpoof. I like this tool because it is all about having fun, discovering things and being creative!! There are so many activities that you can do with Kerpoof.

The Functions of the tool

1. Spell a picture

You get to choose any background and spell the picture. For example, in this picture, I spelled star and it created the image of star. This activity can help the children to learn spelling in an interesting way.

2. Make a Movie

This activity gives the children the opportunity to create their own movie. They get to choose their own storyline, background of the scenes and so on according to their creativity.

3. Make a Card

This activity gives the children the opportunity to be creative and create their own card. They can choose any theme that they like.

4. Make a drawing

This activity gives the children the opportunity to draw anything they like based on their creativity. They can utilized the tools given to create their own drawing. They can also learn about colours.

5. Make a picture

This activity gives the children the opportunity to make their own picture. They can choose any scene they want and start creating it. For example, I have chosen the scene ‘under the sea’. From this scene, children can also learn different types of fish.

6. Tell a story.

This activity gives the children the opportunity to create their own story. Besides that, they can also learn how to make simple sentences to make the story line.

The Limitations of the Tool

This tool is no doubt very interesting and fun for children. It can help to enhance their creativity as well. However, it is more towards language art and children do not learn much about vocabulary, grammar, etc. They only draw, spell a bit, make cards and so on. Eventhough the activity ‘Tell a story’ requires the children to make storyline, however it is not enough. They should have learn some vocabulary and grammar in the beginning before the make simple sentences. Besides that, this tool does not provide sound effects. It would be more interesting if it is completed with sound effects.

When can this tool be used?

This tool can be used during production stage where the children can practice what they have learned in the presentation stage. For example, today’s lesson is making a card for Mother’s Day. So the teacher will introduce the vocabulary related to the topic. Then by using the vocabulary that they have learned, they can create the Mother’s Day card.

The user friendliness from the teacher point of view.

This tool is quite easy to be utilized because the instruction is simple and clear. Therefore, I think that it’s user friendly. The instruction is in symbol form and some words such as ‘undo, redo, clear, and done’. Children can understand the instructions and would be able to use this tool without having too much problem.

The tool is suitable for which standard.

In my opinion, this tool is suitable for standard 4 onwards as they are big enough to handle with ICT tools. Futhermore, the activities provided are suitable for them as well.

In a nutshell, this tool is indeed very interesting and enjoyable. I will definitely use this tool to teach my pupils in the future. Children can start to take full advantage of the Kerpoof creativity suite on their own. They can be more creative in their own way.
